Perthshire hotel gets into Jubilee spirit with 1952 prices
The Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie has hung out the bunting and is getting into the celebratory spirit of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by truly rolling back time to give all their Jubilee guests the chance to win their stay at 1952 room price of just 19 shillings and 6 pence.
The hotel has been under the management of the local Scott family since the mid-1950s, taking over the hotel just a couple of years after the Queen’s Coronation in 1952.

Three generations of hoteliers: Arnold Scott, who purchased the hotel in 1960s), Murray Scott, the current MD, Lachlan Scott, (the future MD?), and Arnold’s wife, Diana
It will be right at the heart of the local Jubilee celebrations being held by Blairgowrie & Rattray Jubilee Big Lunch on Sunday 3 June in Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie.
Says Murray Scott, managing director of Scott Hotels: “We’ve always been a family-run business and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is very much about celebrating the family and the community.
“We wanted to do something specifically for our guests, and with our own 60th anniversary coming up in a few years time, we had started to dig back through the archives and came across our price lists for the 1950s and it sparked the idea.
“The biggest challenge was trying to convert shillings and pence into decimal, but we think we’ve got it right.”
All guests staying at The Angus Hotel between 1 and 5 June are automatically entered into the draw to have their stay reduced to just 234 pennies. Not only that, the hotel has secured reduced price family passes for nearby Glamis Castle, where the Queen’s dresses are currently on display, and will be running a Kids Eat Free offer for the extended Jubilee holiday weekend.
